About the project
Here you will find priceless witness stories in the form of short films. Each could start with the words: I was, I saw, I experienced, I survived.
Nothing can replace the memories, both good and bad, stored deeply in the souls of those who survived. Time is against us, so hurry to hear their stories...
The "Save the Memory" project is a film record of the memories of Krakow citizens about their experiences from 1939 to 1956, the time of the occupation and Stalinist terror.
Let’s listen to what the men and women, citizens of Krakow, scouts, partisans, Home Army soldiers, and simply brave people who survived through their own will to live. Like Yanina Leiman ( today Ecker) a little Jewish girl who was helped at the risk of their own life by a Polish couple Józefa and Tadeusz Latawiec. The heroes of our films managed to survive the war and then Stalinist repression, which, in the case of Stanislaw Ptak and Henryk Münch, ended with ten years in communist prisons. Józef Ostafin - remembered today by his daughter - did not live to see our times. He received a death sentence, which was carried out in 1947 in Krakow.
If placed in the same situations, would we have the same courage?
It is worth thinking about and discussing, not only in public, but also in our own family.
We would like to say thank you to our heroes for sharing their stories with us.
